In kitchens and bathrooms, semi-gloss is the practical choice. These rooms deal with moisture, grease, and frequent wiping, and semi-gloss resists all three better than flatter finishes. Trim, doors, and baseboards should always go semi-gloss or higher. These surfaces take constant contact and need to be wiped regularly. Semi-gloss trim also creates a clean visual contrast against eggshell or flat walls, which gives a room a finished, intentional look. In homes around Elk City where original woodwork is still intact, using the right sheen on trim protects the wood and keeps it looking sharp without stripping away the character of the house.
